Elevating Cancer Care

With Danielle Brown
BHSc (hons)
Senior Naturopathic Practitioner, Researcher and Educator

Danielle’s focus in clinical practice is in working with patients who are in active cancer care, palliative care, or those navigating the uncertain terrain of cancer recovery and prevention. Her expertise spans a wide array of cancers, including solid tumours of the brain, breast, colon, liver, and bone, as well as various blood cancers.

Danielle’s work is distinguished by her integrative approach, which necessitates a nuanced understanding of both conventional and complementary treatment modalities which requires her to have a detailed awareness of conventional treatment strategies and associated side effects to ensure clear safety parameters for integrative options. This knowledge supports patients in navigating potential side effects of first line treatment with the aim to assist with compliance, optimise treatment outcomes and maintain and improve quality of life.

This includes designing strategies that utilise lifestyle medicine and the integration of herbal and nutritional medicine. By prioritising interventions grounded in environmental health, exercise, stress management, and sleep hygiene Danielle’s innovative approach to cancer care is indicative of a broader shift towards more holistic, patient-centred healthcare.

Her work highlights the effectiveness of integrating lifestyle medicine into first line treatment plans, offering a model of care that supports the overall well-being of individuals, providing them with support, guidance, and a comprehensive strategy for health management.

What might you expect to cover in working with Danielle:

Light
Did you know that light drives health? Beyond sunlight and vitamin D, light in a critical determinant of health and each patient receives a light prescription to optimise circadian signalling.

Movement
Exercise is one of the highly evidenced practices to support a person with a cancer diagnosis and area of focus when working with Danielle. This could range from a 30-minute walk post chemotherapy infusion to linking you with personalised plan from a exercise physiologist that can maintain muscle mass, reduce fatigue, and elevate mood.

Stress
The emotional wellbeing of a person with cancer is often not a priority, however the stress impact of a cancer diagnosis and its cascading effects on the physical body of not only the person with cancer, but their family and friends can be profound. Danielle will explore strategies to safely integrating different therapies to manage stress levels with the aim to maintain and identify what brings someone joy – a key aspect in stress management!

Sleep
Sleep quality directly affects health and recovery. An integrative approach address sleep as a critical component of overall well-being. Providing strategies for improving sleep hygiene and managing sleep disturbances is key to supporting the body’s natural healing processes and enhancing treatment effectiveness.

Social connection
Danielle emphasises the importance of social support in the cancer care continuum. Encouraging strong connections with family, friends, and support groups forms an essential part of our approach at Revital Health and we always aim to connect and build a robust support network. (Watch this space for a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who are also navigating a cancer diagnosis and want a space to discuss and process this with others in the community)

You can book with Danielle for an individual integrative oncology appointment, or to assist with continuity of care we have designed a cancer care package which includes four sessions to explore your presentation, priorities, and health status, identify what can be optimised, review the integrative treatment design and provide ongoing support.
